Context is debatable. However, Perception is reality in the ARMY so I guess said soldier made the wrong move.

no way.  The baseball cap alone would make me Irate.  The beer is ok since I like to drink but I act according as a leader and not a crazy fool especially while in uniform.

It represents a lack of discipline and decorum that is unfortunately plaguing the NCO Corps today. Leaders such as yourself, as a Drill Sergeant, have been handicapped by these softening regulations that tell us we need to be "nice" and not cause young soldiers "stress". I'm sorry but last time I checked combat was a stressful environment. I agree that undue hazing is problematic, but I had a VERY healthy respect for my Drill Sergeants when I was in E Btry 1/40. Now I hear cherry privates laughing at their Drills. An NCO told me the other day he couldn't call his privates "Private" because its derogatory... WHAT? This kind of coddling not only fosters stupid actions such as you are describing, but the overall lack of discipline being shown through social media in recent times.
