I maintain my mental health by making sure that I have one of each: something that feeds my mind (reading, learning something new, documentaries), regular physical activity, something that feeds my spirit (meditation, time in nature, prayer), a creative outlet, and something that I enjoy that makes me money or is of service to humanity. The latter does not have to be lucrative but enjoyable. I can't say that I always have every box checked but when I do, everything else just seems to work itself out.

I continue to meet with my therapist and take my medication. I reach out to my immediate family members just to check in and also reach out to my brothers and sisters I have had the privilege to serve with. Knowing that everyone is ok helps me be ok!!!

There's a number things I do to maintain good mental health. On a regular basis, I journal first thing in the morning. I mostly write about what I'm grateful for and what I look forward to that day. I think it's important to take the time out to acknowledge even the little things that we may take for granted. I also listen to affirmations and motivational speeches first thing in the morning. Working out for at least 30 minutes a day also helps me maintain good mental health. I feel like it contributes to me feeling good, mentally and physically. It tends to help me maintain a level head, and not let the little things bother me.

Exercise always makes me feel better physically, emotionally, and mentally. It's the absolute best medicine for a healthy and happy life.

I keep my mind busy. I read. And. I'm a very positive person. Navy taught me respect, and direction at 17 & half. It was the best thing for me.

As both a Veteran and a Husband to another Army Vet (and sadly, MST victim), Mental Health and Stability are ALWAYS on the forefront of my mind. The best way that I have found to maintain, or at times, find again, the sense of peace and tranquility that we both yearn and strive for, is to get out of our normal, city-life routines as MUCH and as OFTEN as possible. Instead of spending weekends sitting around the house watching TV or being "stagnant", going to the local parks to hike, camping out by the river, exploring the few (but lovely!) remaining little towns and villages that are tucked away in the middle of nowhere are usually surefire ways to help improve and/or keep the positivity flowing from both my wife and I. Sitting still is a killer both on your body, and more importantly, your mind/emotions. Something as simple as walking around a pond or lake with your Beloved (pets are optional, but our Service Dog LOVES it!), and enjoying a picnic from your ruck as a romantic surprise is both cheap, easy, and pays off in dividends for both our sanity AND our relationship. Just a simple and pleasant walk in a quiet, natural environment can remove stress, worry, and negative feelings in less than an hour's time. Basically anything out in Nature has such a refreshing effect on the mind and soul, that I'd be willing to bet on it against any VA Quack's prescription pad any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

I fill out a gratitude journal in the morning along with the daily Calm app. In the evenings, I have another journal where I brain dump everything in my head. Tasks, thoughts, worries, fears. As I lie in bed I listen to the daily Headspace app.
Takes about an hour of my day, but it so worth it!
