What do you do when a soldier refuses to listen to your directions?

This is a general question. If you have a soldier who refuses to listen to you, as a non-commissioned officer, do you simply put the incident on paper?
Example given- A soldier has unauthorized sunglasses on in a formation. You tell the soldier to take the sunglasses off. He/she refuses.
On the 4856, do you recommend for UCMJ? I've gone thru 600-20 and cannot find anything regarding this

(1) In general. Article 91 has the same general objects with respect to warrant, noncommissioned, and petty officers as Articles 89 and 90 have with respect to commissioned officers, namely, to ensure obedience to their lawful orders, and to protect them from violence, insult, or disrespect. Unlike Articles 89, and 90, however, this article does not require a superior-subordinate relationship as an element of any of the offenses denounced. This article does not protect an acting noncommissioned officer or acting petty officer, nor does it protect military police or members of the shore patrol who are not warrant, noncommissioned, or petty officers.

What I would wanr to do and what I would do are two different things, i would want to rip them off his face smash them and then smoke the shit out of him, but since that would be destruction of property and considered abuse I would UCMJ him to the fullest of my ability and he would suffer down the road and affect his promotion chances for something that could have been solved and forgotten about

Documentation is your friend. Even the counseling was verbal, document in a file Verbal Counseling was needed. The Soldier will either get with the program, or get gone.documentation will show a change either way.

Huh? Make that SOB Elvis impersonator an example. We need leaders, not folks questioning what they should or should not be doing SGT.

SGT Hamilton, the first thing I would do if I had a soldier who refused to listen is incorporate some corrective training. If that fails, then I'd start the paper trail. Just saying.

This solution does not apply to Reservists or Guardsmen, and doesn't address the failure to be in correct uniform. You left quite a messy trail by criticizing other's over their Branch of Service, MOS and even one Sr NCO about gender. Consider that a grievous failure to adhere to AR 600-20 (Specifically EO Policy) Now your profile says "Disabled vet" Service dates 1986-1995, so I think it's a good thing that General Military Authority does NOT apply to you, especially when you show no respect for other branches, MOS , nor gender. You even promoted violence, when you mis-understood the NCO who warned against it. The modern military does not need leaders who bully, & you have been out of uniform for 21 years. The country deserves better than you.

well sir i was a M1A1 tank gunner during Desert Storm and for most of my career we don't have time to wipe assess and noses on grown men in a combat situation. and if i was dealing with a weekend warrior they are there because they want to be there no one would waste a weekend to go show there ass, again unless they were an ASS, then i'ld push them out with paperwork, so if you have a problem with a weekend warrior shitcan them with every thing in your power. I two was in the Guard 148th bde Hinesville ga we didn't have problems with people in my unit because 90% of them had to be there because they Worked at MATES on Fort Stewart which is the case at many units

A piss-poor leader leader in a "combat situation" is still a piss-poor leader. It's sad and pathetic that you expect to be thanked for your service "here" of all places! You contradicted yourself with all your responses. You suggested fighting the disrespectful soldier & also burying him under paperwork, so which is it? If I asked for the staffing or budget of MATES, you might tell me because your OPSEC is crap. What I will thank you for is the good laugh, remember when you tried to use my own move against me? Why are you looking up my profile? if you have a valid concern with the conduct of military personnel, address it with your congressmen. Just keep in mind: I'm not the only one taking notes.

I see many responses of using physical violence, removing his personal property and destroying it, etc. What I haven't seen is to first ask the individual if he/she has a medical waiver or doctor's order allowing the shades.

Or a service that teaches its leaders to lead through earned respect rather than physical assault or intimidation. Removing the person's glasses yourself is also against the rules of the UCMJ as it is assault. Destroying another person's property is against the rules of the UCMJ. Physically attacking another person just because someone mistakenly gave you more rank is against the rules of the UCMJ. Lastly, if there was a medical reason for the shades, and you caused damage to the person's eyesight, your troubles are just beginning. But in your case, you seem to have it covered; just teach the whole squad that the UCMJ applies to them but not to you. Oorah!

you would have a different outlook if you were in a combat job i was a M1A1 tank gunner during Desert Storm you don't have the luxury or wiping noses and assess on grown men...

Retire. If you can't enough respect from a soldier to get him to remove his/her glasses by asking then you should check yourself.
