I know the shaving regs are mainly aimed at male soldiers. but what do you do, if anything, if you have a female soldier who has a clearly visible moustache that is outside of regulation?

Back in the day a male soldier put in a complaint about a female who had facial hair (side burns and chin wiskers, slight mustache). He said if I can't grow a beard, why can she. They made here get rid of the facial hair. I'm talking early 80's.

that's my issue. what do you say to PVT Joe Snuffy who complains about having to shave when SFC Jolene Snuffy has a handlebar moustache and a dozen 6 inch long hairs growing out of her chin? I guess you just tell him, life ain't fair and to suck it up.

Major, you uphold the grooming standards, if you really have a problem or believer that the standards only pertain to the males, I am sure you can find a female senior NCO or officer to help SFC Snuffy see the light. You are trying to maintain good order and discipline in the unit. Regards and keep up the fire.

Major, what about the other side? Women are forced to wear bras by regulation while men get to go without shirts. Even the AA cup women who have no breasts to speak of could make the argument they should be allowed to go topless. What would you say then?
The best option is to know the regulations and educate your troops about them. Then, once educated, you can hold them to their particular standards and the complaining will either stop through education and enforcement. Or, they can make a suggestion for the higher ups to take a look at the issue, where the command decisions on regulations come from anyways.
Something else you should be educating them on. How to do property and be constructive while bringing up the issue. High Command hates nothing more then a bunch of belly aching with no suggestions on how to solve the issue.
Would you like that from your troops? Would you not want those in the chain of command to not have educated themselves and their troops and dealt with this in the correct way before it got to you? Especially if the NCO was not directly in your control as a direct report? That is what your higher ups would expect. So should you.
And, where is your Command Sergeant Major with all of this going on? It should have been dealt with by a senior NCO over the NCO in private in the first place. Unless there isn't one in your team, command, or staff. Then that would put it on your junior officers and you.

Inappropriate humor. I know it blows off some of the tension. But, come on. Let's hep solve the issue please. Then you can be humorous (within taste) of course.

I am a female vet from the 80s. I have & have had a clearly visible mustache (very fair skin, very dark hair). Sir, check the regs. Female regs in the 80s did NOT mention facial hair or leg hair. If they still don't, there's nothing you can or should say.

Shaving of the legs in the field, and now combat, lead to many skin injuries and infections. From the common fungus to out and out deadly diseases. That is why the regulations in combat are different and medical health are taken into consideration. Even a three day stubble or a full beard can be authorized.
