The one thing that I see as a military greatest challenge in 2023 is its staffing of Personnel due to Covid 19. Many people are scared to join the military because they don’t want to leave loved ones or family behind. It is a challenge for the military to retain and provide ongoing incentives when there aren’t many people joining the military.

I second recruitment - retention is essential to raise up younger talent but sometimes it can be dead weight. Assessments should be personal from each rank level and include the opportunity to receive constructive feedback without retaliation (E-1 through officer ranks). Voices should be heard and guidance influenced based on feedback from everyone wearing the uniform. Once insights are collected in an unbiased and non-retaliatory manner - actions can be taken to recruit and cultivate top talent. There are many broken spokes in the wheel and difficult choices means letting some failed leadership go to make room for those who are fully "in the game".

Wining the hearts and minds. There are a few that believe serving our country is an honorable and traditional path. With the many though, who openly mock everything not only everything about the military but America itself, how will you convince them to sign up for a tour, or worse, weed out the ones who want to cause damage from within.

Housing. There are shortages of inventory in all markets and the BAH is not sufficient to pay for the average rent on its own area.

Woke ideology is rampant in this country and what use to be looked to be the top tier of strength is now a sign of being in some alternate-extremist group. Kids are looked at the military as the enemy of the country instead of the protectors of it. All branches have gotten too soft and moved away from what make them great. Millions wasted on a gender neutral ACFT to only make it gender bias is a prime example. There are biological and physical differences between men and women, get over it, stop pushing woke culture on warriors whose primary purpose is to eliminate the enemy to protect the people from of this country.

Second is suicide because the military lacks proper care for soldiers. Everyone knows that anyone reaching out for help will lose their job, lose their clearance and lose career and way of life. When that changes, more service men and women will reach out for help and stop taking their own lives thinking it is the only way. Give help and not make it a career ended.
