Biggest issues I see going forward is veterans being misled and used for political interests.

Alcoholism in vets with PTSD, MST, or other mental health afflictions, especially those undiagnosed. It tends to increase the likelihood of suicidal tendencies in those veterans exponentially and also largely increases the severity and detriments of those mental illnesses. I've been to VA affiliated treatment but a lot of veterans that need the same program either don't want help, don't think they need help, or straight up can't or won't get the same help. Alcohol, and especially it's overuse, is so deeply accepted in our society that it's really difficult as a veteran to know or even realize we've reached the point of harmful and excessive self-medication let alone the fact that even 3 beers every night is already a little excessive. I personally would drink 1-2 liters of vodka daily and thought I had everything under control and that I was, hilariously, drinking a normal amount. I didn't think I deserved nor did I want treatment or even my diagnosis because I didn't go to combat. And I did my best for over ten years to drink myself to death or kill myself while drinking because of that and because of other losses I suffered related to and during my short career. I see others going down my path and I almost didn't make it through the valley; I'd hate to see anyone succeed where I failed in reaching the end early. And alcohol really steepens the decline of that path.

Homelessness with little housing options, little advancements , adding just a commissary for veterans instead of a parking lot would be better than nothing. A service that flys vets to relatives funerals as a vip, especially if they died as a war vet. A veterans airport with military pilots is also a idea that could be manifested. Fishing for MREs instead of a grocery store package of tuna; Vets could can their own cans of fish with a packaged by vets label. They could live in ships instead of on the streets..fishing for a living

I think that medical care is the largest issue facing the Veteran community today., and that includes the cost of prescription drugs.

Cost Plus Drugs. 100 Prescriptions at lowest cost you can find. I recently heard about this. About time somebody did this for Americans!

I am not affiliated with them in any way, just a fellow vet who wants to spread the word to help save others what little cash they have.

You have an aging patient base that will be requireing more and more help as they age. This help will not only require more services for senior veterans, but it will also probably require services and medications that don't even exist at this time.

I live in the Huntsville, AL area (Madison County) and the largest issues I see facing the Veteran community are as follows: homelessness, mental illness, including PTSD and lack of medical care.

Largest issues facing the Veteran community mirror those of the rest of the population - INFLATION. My Military Retirement pay, which started in 1982, does not keep pace with the current economy. Add that to the low earning received while in the military, my Social Security checks are woefully short of friends that retired from private industry jobs. Every month, I see a declining amount in my buying power. I think that a lot of other veterans are experiencing the same. Especially those that retired 20 or more years ago.
For those of you that can't relate to low earning in the military. I was earning $120.76 a month in 1960... That was before taxes and donations (EER, etc) the First Sergeant collected...

Other than the obvious combat issues, the great majority of the veterans that I see are grossly overweight and have not learned the basics of nutrition intake and the power of ground source foods.
I ask often this question; Have you ever seen a healthy doctor? Almost without exception, the answer is "well..., now that you said that..., not really.?
If we are to look to our health care providers that are not prototypical of health, then why should we be getting advice from them? Personally, I've seen this for decades and the problem is not getting better, but worse. Many of the staff and nurses are so obese and diabetic. I'm sorry for saying these things but please prove me wrong.
To answer the question; Education about the power of nutritional intake. Plants, Nuts, Fruit, legumes, and small portions of meat, and downsize their meal. Avoid products that have been commercially manufactured.

I agree with eating better, but, especially if you don't cook, don't have time to cook, or have health issues that make cooking difficult, you end up eating processed foods with too many additives. I am not overweight & know about eating healthy, but knowing & doing are 2 different things.

I disagree. I never had a weight issue until I got COVID and back pain. When you get older almost everyone gains some weight. Unfortunately, to alleviate the pain I now drink more then I would like which can lead to many unhealthy issues but I am 72. How much more time do I have? I want to live out the rest of my life pain free. I also think this web page is somewhat of a scam since you have to upgrade and pay a fee to vote. Have a nice day.

Dear friend,
We all are natural..., but not supernatural. We do not have the ability to gain a single atom, cell, once, or pound out of thin air. It's impossible to gain weight without adding water and/ or food. or you can hold weights. Ha
Covid is an ancient virus that's been around for centuries and will remain for centuries. The common cold is a virus. We now know that all dis-ease begins in the gut, and the gut is where the immune system is either strengthened or weakened. Food is important to all living things and each "living thing" must eat what it's designed to eat, from microorganisms to the largest mammal in the world. It's simple really, mankind is designed to eat from the ground.
There are ten's of thousands of articles and affirmations that, without a doubt, we as humans should stick with a primary plant-based food diet. Covid doesn't cause weight gain but the elbow will.
Best regards,
Michael
