should officers be given a chance for redemption like most enlisted soldiers are? or should the army be harder on them than regular joes?

I know in my experience E4 and below were given the benefit of the doubt and were given a 2nd chance. E-5 and above and officers? Pack your bags and Start your transition. And me personally? I think that's the right approach. NCO's and Officers should be setting the example for all to follow. How can i expect Soldiers to follow my lead if i fail a Urinalysis? That's a disaster waiting to happen.

PFC (Join to see) - Listen, i was always taught to check down, not up. There are things that happen behind the scenes that quite frankly you are not privy too. Too many times in an instance that results in a senior leader being in trouble, the lower enlisted bitch that nothing is done. Remember check down not up. Little do you know or need to know is that senior leader has probably received some sort of GOMOR or something put into their file that has just ended their career. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Check down, not up!!!!

Though I understand why you would say that, I do not agree MSG. I am in the BDE S2 shop and am a security manager so I definitely am privy to derog incidents. the officer in question did in fact receive a GOMOR. I am simply asking the question as to does he deserve a second chance. And the check down not up thing doesn't always work as it is a seriously flawed culture in the military where do as I say and not as I do has become the standard. if you take the rank set the example!! you will lose the respect of those under you if not I guarantee it.

PFC (Join to see) - For the sake of argument lets take the military out of equation. If you are a civilian working as a manager at Amazon are you investigating what repercussions happened to your Area manager for a DUI he received on the weekend? That is not for me to determine. Maybe its a generational thing, but i have always stayed in my sphere of control, if that person is not within my sphere of control it is none of my business. You happen to be in a position to see some of those incidents, and you do realize that that Officers career is effectively over right? For the most part individuals of your rank do not see those repercussions and just figure that nothing has happened is what im saying. I couldnt agree with you more when you say "if you take the rank set the example!! " as a matter of fact im pretty sure i said that exact same thing in my first response.

PFC (Join to see) - Do you understand that a GOMOR ended that officers career and while they may let him serve out until he is passed over the second time, he needs to be looking for a civilian job. Officers are up or out and there was no exceptions when I was around. Do I think he needs a second chance? No, not at all. If you want to run with the Big Boys, you play by the Big Boy Rules.

Roger SFC. I think maybe we should dig a little deeper into the why and circumstances behind it first though.

PFC (Join to see) - The only reason why someone should not be sent packing is if they were prescribed pain meds with narcotics, and that the prescription is still current. Anyone else...send them packing. We all know that drugs are not allowed for use in the military.

Yes. As a SFC I am held to a higher standard than an E1-E4. It should be that way. Think about it. We are asking soldiers to place their lives and their futures in the hands of their leaders, so shouldn't the leaders actually be worthy of that kind of trust?
