New pt uniform
I've seen the Soldiers wearing the black and gold uniforms for pt recently but only a few. The Army seems to have this problem with uniform changes, I'm a little annoyed. Although I think the current PT's are bland, I don't feel like the Army should be shelling out all this money for flair. It's the same uniform, different color scheme, anyone else annoyed by this? I feel if they were going to make new PTs they could have changed them up besides color. Not to mention I really hate the LS turtle neck. Also, does anyone know the wear date for these new PT's?

As far as I know the new PT's are to be issued starting FY 2015, but won't be required until 2018 unless something has changed. Hope this helps.

The APFU is both good and bad (hope for the best, plan for the worst, & get something in the middle).
THE GOOD: The shorts are fantastic with a built in liner like the bike shorts most of us already wear under the current version, improved pockets (2) for keys/ID etc. The shirts are comfortable with some form of moisture wicking, no more turtle neck on the LS, and a sewn in square for name marking. The jacket and pants have adjustable cuffs and the material no longer makes a lot of noise when you walk or your arm touches the torso.
THE BAD: The LS shirt is thin like the SS so warmth is an issue. Neither the jacket nor the pants are lined so cold weather is going to be a serious challenge.
THE UGLY: The supply chain was already strained keeping up with the old APFU, when the roll out took place for the new version the closest active duty base to me (3 hours) had only received size L shorts and did not expect to receive any additional shipments in the immediate future.
*** The PT Belt is still our required force field against all threats as the reflective material was removed as both a cost saving measure and in consideration of tactical environments.

Are the shorts, SHORT SHORTS? for example, I wear a XL but I wear xxl for the army because I want them longer.

Do you have the link to order them, the real ones, not the knock offs.

The shorts are closer to a basketball short rather than the current "runner's cut" version that we have now. I wound up ordering mine through AAFES, I'll get you the link.

I mean honestly, did they have to change the ENTIRE PT uniform? Why couldn't they just take the SS/LS shirts and change their material? And why did they have to go with black and no reflective elements. Now I'm going to be worried about getting hit by some asshat that's late for PT hitting me at oh dark crack of ass.

And do we really need a PT uniform to be able to do PT? Just show up in running shoes, white socks, black under armour shorts and grey t-shirt and do PT. Those PT pants and jacket are like running with a parachute deployed behind you.

And before someone pees themselves crying uniformity, we're never completely uniform. You have Soldiers wearing every color of running shoe, some wear green gloves in winter while others wear black. Hell, I've seen some Soldiers wear those damned brown neck gaiters in 30 degree weather. Those look like a bucket of smashed assholes.

I think a lot of soldiers are going to end up severely sun burned and over heated in this. They look nice, but aren't very practical due to the color. The grey heather pt uniforms of the mid 90s were great and not sure why they changed them....or why we continue to focus so much on military uniforms so frequently when it is rather costly to conduct "studies" on them, implement them and then for the soldiers to keep purchasing over and over.

I think that the new PT uniform looks nice, of course I could say that they could have spent the money elsewhere if anything the improvements that they made will definitely be a plus,I actually didn't mind the appearance of the old uniform if they had made the improvements and still kept the same colors that would have been fine with me, I honestly think OD Green is a nice color, I sure do miss those old marshmallow sweat suits, they were petty comfortable

PT Uniform in my day was STARCHED fatigue uniform and shined combat boots (and you couldn't take the shirt off or roll the sleeves up (Ft. Benning in July sucked swamp water). I have an opinion about todays PT Uniform ...... I'm jealous......no matter what it looks like. But the reflective belts in war zones? Just paint a target on me....... good think that most Hajjis couldn't shoot.

On the FOB I got reamed out by a Marine Gunny for not having my reflective belt on, not being in the proper uniform (I was a contractor) and having both ear buds in my ears (I have 80% hearing loss and couldn't have heard squat without my aids). The butt chewing felt good..... Like old times. My ever present Battle/Ranger Buddy had to tell me when the siren went off cause' I couldn't hear it. I was the joke of the FOB. I slept right through the incoming and sirens. I can still shoot though and thats all that mattered!

CPT Michael Barden I think you have to have a strobe like attached to your head also. But on a serious note I have to wear eye pro at all times walking outside the barracks and wear a PT belt to cross two streets to get to the chow hall here at Dix. I have been here about 3 weeks now and have only seen a five vehicles use those roads so far.

I was under the impression that the yellow portion of it was reflective?

SPC (Join to see) It is not. There are no more reflective material on them anymore. That is a reason why they are cheaper. The jacket is 10 dollars cheaper.
