What do you think of the new Army PT uniform?

I've seen the Soldiers wearing the black and gold uniforms for pt recently but only a few. The Army seems to have this problem with uniform changes, I'm a little annoyed. Although I think the current PT's are bland, I don't feel like the Army should be shelling out all this money for flair. It's the same uniform, different color scheme, anyone else annoyed by this? I feel if they were going to make new PTs they could have changed them up besides color. Not to mention I really hate the LS turtle neck. Also, does anyone know the wear date for these new PT's?

Remember folks that we will always have change...as each new day brings new challenges. I was there at the onset when we wore the Banana suits through the old and new Army Grey into the Army Black...
When I was a Company Commander (Med Co) at the Interim Brigade Combat Team (Yeah, remember that before we had the Units of Action and Stryker Brigades), this evolutionary step... it wasn't perfect, wasn't close to the version that we have now. But it was a start and we tried to make the best of it at the Company level where it mattered. I recall reading a white paper that spoke to a different transformation. One in which the Army went through Eight major redesigns in the 80 years following the turn from the 19th Century, it included a Motorized Rifle Regiment and other versions of a Regimental Triad.
What am I trying to say here? We are a creature of habit, an organization that, for good and bad, is in constant flux in response to the environment that we live, train and fight in. As that environment changes, we need to change with it. Hopefully to a point that prepares us for being better prepared to engage and overcome the adversities that come with both recurring (OEF) and new enemies (ISIS). I understand the need of the Soldier to gripe and complain, we all do.
But try to keep it in perspective and truly question that rationale if and only if it impedes your ability to train for and conduct the mission that we all signed up to do. Support and defend the Constitution of our Nation.

I like it. They addressed the black color issue with a lighter fabric so it ends up working out or so they say. Not to mention many unit PT shirts are black anyways.
I think they said that the reason its not reflective is because they don't want to get rid of the PT belt. I bet if they kept it reflective the cost would be more expensive (These PTs are supposed to be cheaper than the current), then Soldiers would complain about that too.
Maybe they'll let us wear fivefingers and use MP3 players during PT next...I can dream.

This change was a long time in the making. I remember years back taking numerous surveys on what my preferences / suggestions were for a new APFU. At that time, I also remember telling myself "why is the Army worried about changing the APFU?". Now, that it has been decided, I am actually pretty excited for the change. Its like those times when your shopping for a new civilian "PT" clothes, its not that you need them, you just want them... I always feel a little extra motivation when Im in new gear for some reason. I for one am actually a fan of the black and gold colors (says that pittsburgh steelers fan)!

I wonder if we will get issued this new uniform. Or will we have to come out of pocket like we had to with the ASU

I believe that only certain personnel will be issued the uniforms initially, like Drill Sergeants, AIT PSG's and so on... The rest of the force will have to procure them with clothing allowances but have until October of 2017 if Im not mistaken.

We have have until October 2017, but you know as soon as they are available, we will be "encouraged" to go get them and set the example. My ETS is Oct 2017, if I don't reenlist, but I am not going to be "that guy".
I am excited about it. There is even an option to buy an improved PT shirt over the standard issued one. This great. We need to keep up with regular fitness gear. Our PTs are old and aren't that great. There has been a lot of improvements to this uniform. I for one welcome it.
Good luck doing PT in the Summer Time in the Southeast, Midwest, Southwest US where most of our Army Bases are! I place ten to one odds when the heat cramps and heat stroke stats go up, Senior Leadership is going to be scratching their heads trying to figure out why and end up blaming the Team, Squad, Platoon and Company Level leadership for the failure! Just my two cents.
I really did not have a problem with our current PTs except for the occasional pair of shorts that would ride in the front. However the new PTs look a lot more comfortable. Plus I remember when I was still an AASLT instructor, we would always see a soldier wearing the new PTs around III Corps HQ during PT and we as the instructors would all say that they looked a whole lot more comfortable. But all in all I'm ready for this change
I really don't get why we have spent so much money on uniforms, changes in slight color scheme. Let's go back to BDUs and DCUs, change the pockets on them and get it over with. How much have we as the DoD spent on Uniforms in the past 10-12 years? Now we're handing out pink slips to deployed soldiers? I think someone in Higher needs to get their shit straight. That's my 2 cents.
As mentioned, the army would spend money on the production of the ipfu regardless of what version or design it is, but the real problem comes from the R&D. The money spends Ridiculous amounts of money on revamping things that do not need revamping. Or worse yet, things that need revamping, but never see update. The pt uniform falls into the former. It doesn't need to have funds invested into it's revision if it works. Put this money into soldiers pockets. Put it into installation renovation. Put it into into rebuilding the decrepit schools on post. There are ways to invest this money wisely, and the pt uniform is not it... Particularly when we will still have to buy it out of our pockets (lord know the clothing allowance stretches so far as it is)... And then still be required wear the god awful infamous pt belt.
Complete waste of precious money, tha is dwindling as it is...
Much like the initiative to revamp the duty uniform... What a cluster that turned out to be.

I hope this doesn't sound weird, but I think the current shorts are sloppy and too long. I am not saying we should have PT shorts that look like the Marines, but I am an avid runner and a cardio nut so having comforable shorts is a very important to me.

Agreed. They are unisex though, and many might feel uncomfortable at the "revealing" nature of them. I'm with you though, I pt on my own as much as possible so I can run in my own gear.
