As posted earlier, SGT Bergdahl is going to plead guilty to Misbehavior before the Enemy, and Desertion. What do you think his punishment should be and why? We already know he will more than likely be reduced to E-1, forfeit all pay and allowances, and receive a dishonorable discharge.

Dishonorable discharge, loss of all rank and pay, loss of US citizenship, deportation.
Incurs ZERO financial liability to US after convection and deportation ... and we never have to see him again....unless he desires to work with the insurgency in which case we will see him in the Targeting process....which works as well.

All the stuff you said. The stripping of citizenship sounds especially good for a traitor. After he gets out of Leavenworth, he can be deported to the Galapagos Islands or Tierra del Fuego or some such place to eke out his miserable existence. Oh, and on his last day his unit should hold a dress parade, and when they get to the part where personnel to be awarded are brought forward, he should be marched to the front along with the tailor, who (after sentence is read) should remove his rank insignia, other military insignia and buttons, and he should be taken in charge by the Sergeant of the Guard, who (with the band) will march the prisoner to the front gate and eject him from the base. I recall that was done at Marine Barracks, Norfolk VA, back in the early 1970s - the command drummed a Marine out of the Corps with a bad-boy discharge. I also recall that CMC called the Barracks CO and said "We're not going to do that anymore..." Damned shame, since I believe a good dose of humiliation (or the fear of it) is a useful motivational tool for good order and discipline.

Unfortunately we live in a time were men like this will, if not already, have a huge following of support for "finding his own truth" or "doing what he thought was right" or some other nonsense. They'll probably also advocate that he is owed something for the humiliation he's already endured. Such is the country we live in.
