Have the Veterans here stayed in shape since leaving their beloved branch? If not, why not start getting back into it now? Veterans don't make excuses, they make decisions.

What have you done to stay in shape and what motivation can you pass onto your fellow servicemen and women to get them back on track?

Capt Tom Brown That is the recommended number of steps a day. I usually walk 2.5 miles at one time, which equals 6000 steps. The other walking is doing chores, shopping, etc. I usually do not take a nap, unless I am thoroughly beat.

I try....but life seems to get in the way! I really miss my running, tennis, seeing progress in my physical shape. Now I see a 59 year old woman who is not the person I would like to be! Tell me how to make it happen!:-)

Capt Tom Brown - My husband works and travels a bunch. When he's here we do go for walks clean barn, and care for our farm. But he isn't a gym guy. If I wait for him I will not get myself moving!

You can do all the training you want....the gains and losses start in the kitchen. Doesn't mean starve yourself, 5 meals a day, eat clean, fresh fruits and vegetables, clean meat, stay away from boxed and frozen meals. HIIT style weight training 3-4 days a week. That is the battle plan to a healthy and more energized lifestyle...oh and a gallon of water a day. And age isn't a factor...my dad is 64 and still keeps up with me. He was my coach growing up and now I'm his coach haha

PO1 (Join to see) - I have my own veggie garden, have done a csa for nine weeks, but honestly, I'm not the domestic type:-). I hate cooking. I do like some things, but after my chemo for breast cancer, I developed different tastes. Can seem to find things that taste good. Really weird.

TSgt H D - I did that, but it seems all my friends gave up! I have the new blaze with a leather band and really like it. I just need to make me get off the duffer! I am showing over 30 minutes of high activity daily, but I need an hour daily. Thanks for the suggestion. What do you do to stay fit?

I started doing sprint triathlons . Just running, or just biking is hard on joints. This way the whole body gets to share the misery ,

Well I'm not in Marine Corps shape, but there are little things I do to try and stay healthy. Despite my knees not being in the best shape for physical activity, I'll typically park in the furthest spot and use the extra distance to stay healthy. I still keep a pullup bar mounted on my bathroom door so I can get a quick set in before doing my business. My daughters are still young and small so sometimes I'll do planks while they're crawling around on the floor or I'll use my daughters as "ammo can" lifts. They think it's all in good fun and I get a quick workout in.

In regards to motivation, anything can be a workout. Start small, maybe do a little more each time.

I do triathlons, bike races, and running races. Long distance triathlons are my favorite, I've done 3 full ironmans and 7 half ironmans. I'm going to get into Cyclocross racing this winter when I buy a cyclocross bike

I have an elliptical/stationary bike in my home office and use it a minimum of 30 minutes per day 5 days a week. Add in push ups and sit ups also.
Then I ride my horses (seriously it's exercise) for a couple hours most weekends. I lift hay bales, sacks of grain, and buckets of water to feed and water my animals.
