Fast tracking also means a Soldier who progresses through the ranks surpassing his/her peers at a quick/fast pace (usually get waivers for all promotions, and excel and volunteer for additional training which helps them to attain the rank of SGT, SSG and SFC in a short time period...

Fast tracking is oftentimes referred to career progression. Usually when one does become a DS, they typically are sought after and stand out more than their peers, due to the prestigious honors of being a DS. That in part usually sets the individual apart from others as far as discipline and the willingness to take on more than that which is demanded of him/her (i.e. training soldiers, being a leader or role model...). So you 1SG is simply telling you that your interest in becoming a DS is a great (fast) step in your progression in the ARMY. Also, the disclaimer also is that just because you are, if you become a DS, that things will be handed to you because they won’t. It is also not the essential part of accelerating through the ranks, one must know their job and possess the ability to lead. I’m sure others will chime in but I hope I have you somewhat of a understanding as to what the 1SG meant.

It is unfortunate, however, that becoming a DS isn't by choice anymore, but by random selection. I wonder how much more improved the military's training system would be, if it were staffed by DS that were actually excited about their jobs and wanted to be there...

I also want to be Drill Sergeant and for my little knowledge, fast tracking goes in the way that your progression should be high speeded(weapon card, pt, military school training, classes ) in term of resilience, intuitive and motivated. My opinion. If my opinion is off range, thanks for updating

Why didn't you just ask your 1SG what she meant? Can't be scared to ask questions from your leadership. Sure, you might get a wise ass comment but so what? What if told you to do something and you didnt understand? Would you just walk away and not do it because you were too scared to get clarification?
I remember, it may be weird to ask dumb questions, but at the end of the day we all put our pants on one leg at a time. Just use proper customs and courtesies and you'll be fine.

SSG (Join to see) - Just like MSG said, doesn't always hurt to ask. I try to answer all questions by lower enlisted however, that is something a PFC should NOT have asked a 1SG. You could've waited to ask your first line. Damn if you do, damned if you don't. LOL.
If your 1SG said you are fast tracking, stay that way. If you already want to go DS, you already made a goal. Now stick with that goal and accomplish it. I am in Combat Arms but I tell all my "POG" jkjk, non-combat arms buddies that, going DS will look good on you because you hardly see them with DS badges. In my world, they're all over so there really is no competition. I can go on and on about what to do to fast track but don't overwhelm yourself. Here is a tip, that portion on your ERB/SRB where it says, Military Education, fill that up with everything. Where it says college education, make it say bachelors degree. If you have a GT score lower than 110, sign up for FAST class. (I think they changed the name). Doing what I mentioned will surpass your peers and it will give you promotion points, depending on what class though.

Stop reading this and go sign up for a class.

Thankyou for your advice. I am currently enrolled in college and about a year out from my bachelors. I have completed a network+ certification along with tactical radios and IT fundamentals. I am currently slotted for security+ next week. My GT score is 128. I have 400 promotion points currently without my civilian education. Do you have any more advice?

SSG (Join to see) it pays to be a winner. Earn your place in your job everyday. Take on extra responsibility and become the SME on some of your systems. Dont throw people under the bus to get there, you still have to he a team player, but you can still shine one the team and take them with you.

SSG (Join to see) - Boards, Boards and more Boards. Soldier of the Month, then Quarter then Year. You're already ahead of your peers with 400 promotion points as a PFC. Add your civilian education and it'll get you more points. Outshine everyone. Stay out of trouble. If you see Soldiers with ART15s, don't be that guy. Learn from THEIR mistakes.
