Courage is the ability to act in the face of fear. No one joins the Military to kill people. Most of us are just regular people searching for something. But when faced with an enemy trying to kill us we are forced to face that fear and either attack or defend ourselves and therefore our Country. The ability to act in the face of fear is what keeps our Military strong.

In spite of feeling a negative emotion towards something, for example, feeling afraid, discouraged, weary of the situation at hand, being courageous means that you will do what is at hand that is being asked to do of your behalf because ultimately the outcome will be a positive one if you leave all those negative thoughts to the aside. Being courages is what hero’s are made of.

Courage to me means having the will to persist and continue on even when your whole body is telling you to quit. To keep moving forward reinventing yourself so that you can adapt and overcome and still be an effective member of society.

Courage is the action taken when a situation involves risk or danger whether physical or personal.

Courage is stepping on fear -- making the choice to put the winning faith inside yourself before all else; to allow the leader and winner in you to take charge, while laughing in the face of adversity. No matter how small or how big the issue, Courage strengthens and heals.

Courage. If you are fearless, it does not take courage to proceed in the face of danger. To proceed when you are petrified with fear is the mark of courage. Fear takes many forms: Of physical harm to yourself, or something or someone close to you; Of loss; Of failure and shame, especially if it will become known; Of ridicule; Of rejection; Of appearing stupid or incompetent. And so forth... If these fears are roadblocks opposing necessary action, even something as simple as asking a question, or speaking in or in front of a group, courage is what drives you to do it, the determination to attempt regardless of risk, to plow through the fear. Courage in the face of physical danger can be almost trivial compared to some other dreaded prospects. A much-desired outcome is an aid to courage. Courage is a muscle; it grows with use.

PO2 Joan MacNeill
As an aside, an Army General, a Marine Corps General, and an Admiral, were discussing their relative troops' courage. As an example, the Army General told a private to pop a grenade pin, toss it and fall on it. The private complied, and was disintegrated. The Marine told a lance corporal to stand up in a live fire exercise. He did, and was shredded by .50 caliber fire. The Admiral called up to a sailor on a high mast, and told him to jump. The sailor said "Screw you, Admiral!" The Admiral told the others "That's REAL courage!"
