What does the word sacrifice mean to you?

Sacrifice is giving up something important without expecting anything in return.

Sacrifice emanates from a true and noble place within ourselves. It’s not asked of a person but is gifted from one to another. Deep respect, appreciation or love fuels the commitment that is required from sacrifice. We know full well that there will be pain, hurt, loss - but to rest assured that our beloveds are safe and well taken care of is what brings a sense of peace and assurance. Sacrifice is getting punched in the gut and looking at life straight in the eyes and saying “Is that all you got?”

Sacrifice to me depends on the context in which it is used. Generally, it indicates a compromise that can have a price, but that doesn't automatically make it a negative experience. Again, for this word and indeed the concept itself, context is everything.

Giving of my own for others

an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure.

Putting others before yourself.

Going above your own goals/standards to help your brothers/sisters in need am the while sacrificing your own needs.

Risking benefit of self for the greater good.

Giving up something of importance to you for someone else

Sacrifice means giving up something that is important to you for the sake of a loved one.
