Just to start the conversation, I still make sure that my 'gig' line is straight every single time I get dressed.

I have been out for 35 years and to this day I have lived every day with at least one throwback to my military career. Gig line, phonetic alphabet, 24 hour time, and all the others I see listed here. One I didn't see that I use more than others is...watch your six, can't tell you how many times I herd "what?" I continue to use all my terms...only vets understand. Well with the inclusion of my wife and two boys. They know I'm "touched".

75 years old, one 4 yr enlistment. Gig line straight, 15 minutes early for appointment. Hat off when entering building.

When I enter an office building, hospital, school etc, I automatically take my ''cover'' off and it grates me to no end seeing people sitting in my grand kids' school during an assembly/concert with their hats on (including this one joker in church who wears his ''trucker hat'' (flat bill) backwards in church....on the stage while playing his guitar. If I go out, I HAVE to have one of my 23 ball caps on. I feel naked without one.
I also tend to start my walking with my left foot. I stand with the Patriot Guard Riders and once we're assembled to walk over to the internment shelter (Willamette National Cemetery), we ALL start out with our left foot and walk in step. I pointed this out and they were surprised they do it without thinking.

Caring and worrying about the people that report to me. Everyone goes home in one piece. Only one in 50 years went home early and he kick ass afterwards. Bucky you spoiled my record, but you made it.

Youngest daughter recently got hired as a security guard. Visited a week ago. As she's preparing to leave for work..."Fix your gig line." "Huh?" "Straighten your shirt and pants to line up." "Funny, Dad. You're a real pain!" :-)
