Just to start the conversation, I still make sure that my 'gig' line is straight every single time I get dressed.

I work on-Base as a civilian. For me, it's coming to my feet whenever an officer enters the room. (it freaks-out AF 2LTs to MAJs...)

Love of country and the American way of life. Also, thanks to recent legislation, I can stand at attention and salute during the playing of the National Anthem, even though I played tackle football in the military and worked as a part-time janitor at night and on weekends.

I check the "gig line," too! I try to find a corner seat in restaurants where I can watch people come in and out. I like to take note of everyone who I might possibly have to take out if things get dicey! (-:

My first chief forever removed the words "yep" and "a huh" from my vocabulary. I'm very grateful for that.

All of the above and I won't let my wife do my laundry. Every shirt is hung facing left, top button buttoned, shoes underneath lined and shined. My wife's side of the closet looks like a junkie ransacked it looking for hidden money.

Hands never in pants pockets...are your hands cold soldier? I still stand at ease in the office of a superior.

Shoes laced left over right. Check for Irish Pennants and “Military Alignment”. Leather shoes always polished, including the instep. Firearms are cleaned and oiled. And like others, I eat quickly and police my own dishes.

20 years later, I still have a hard time with adapting to the way civilians deal with chain of command issues in the workplace. These open door policies where people think they can just chit chat about work with people several levels above them WITHOUT giving the direct supervisor a heads up. Actually, there is a lot about civilian jobs I have a hard time getting used to...
