The competition to drive up ratings has led to headline sensational news stories in which the content of the story is often sensationalized and editorial bias is rampant. If there isn't a story then one will be created to get your attention, to up their ratings. Society jumps on the band wagon without having all the facts or doing research of their own. The days of just getting the facts are gone, besides who wants to read a boring news story? For example If the headline read, Chicago High School Holds Black Only Meeting To Encourage Students To Express Their Concerns. Would you read it or flip past it? Instead the headline reads, "Black Lives Matter Assembly Excludes Other Races" or "No Whites Allowed: Chicago Area High School Hosts Blacks Only Meeting". Do you see how this gets people to choose sides?

This is just an example of sensational news reporting please don't start debating race.

Do you actually take time to read the story or do you base your opinion on what you hear others say and on the headline?

Sensationalism sells and pushes ratings. The media is run by the political groups and the millionaires that own them. This is evident in the fact that on one channel its liberal on another its conservative and still another its not even reality. Local news is not bad in some areas but anything that calls itself international comes with a bias. Two channels to watch and get a good picture of the international climate are BBC, not BBC America, but the actual and Al Jazeera, which I find completely insane as only a couple of years ago they were the ones showing beheadings and mass shootings and everything they reported had an anti-America bent to it.

I admit that "sensational headlines" spark my interest, but I also (generally) READ the article and form my own opinion.

In today's world of sensationalism & impossible crimes being solved in 30-60 minutes, Real news isn't reported because it takes too long to develop.
