What happens during army reception? What type of medical stuff do they do? And lastly how long does it last?

Lasts about 5 days.
At the time, reception feels intense.
About 15 seconds after your DS gets you, you realize reception was nothing.
Do what you are told.
Dont overthink...just do.
Time warps, so a week will feel like a month.
It will end.
Never quit.
Just keep pushing forward.

I heard they send people home sometimes for lying and medical reasons. My question is how are they able to tell if someone is lying? And I thought MEPS cleared you so you couldn't be sent home

Generally if someone is caught lying, it's because they told the MEPS one thing on record and the people at Reception another. The only ones that I can think of that would get you sent home is drug use that you didn't report to the MEPS or a medical condition that you didn't report.
Your time there will be spent being rushed from one place to another by the Drills, then you stand in line waiting for medical, admin, pay, clothing issue, etc. The drills tend to be load and directive, but to be honest, most recruits are so inexperienced at almost everything that it's a surprise they can find their own ass. The medical stuff is mainly inoculations, and you will get enough that your arms will feel like lead for the next couple of days. I was fitted to military glasses there, don't know if they still do that at reception or not. After the initial shock wears off, it's really rather boring.

You can get discharged at any point. If they find something in medical that disqualifies you that MEPS didn't catch you could be gone. If you lied on paperwork and they catch you in the lie.
We had two girls pretend to be lesbians to try to get kicked out...I don't remember if they did or not. People had to like babysit them so they wouldn't be anywhere aone.

I remember reception being unexpectedly relaxed -- yes, you get yelled at, but depending on your DS you may not do much PT out of fear for injury.
By the time you're almost ready to get picked up by your actual training unit you will be ready for it. The monotony of reception is the only real bad part.

There was a DS who got relieved in reception because he smoked these recruits so bad some had to be hauled away on stretchers. Why? They touched his hat. I wasn't in that group but I saw some people get hauled away and we were like "wth" Then heard about it.
