i Got reclassed to a 25s recently and just started class. The required service time for the job upon graduation is 36 months. I only have around 23 months left in my contract. I don’t want to be in the army longer than I have to and the army isn’t meant for me. What happens if I refuse to re-enlist or extend? Will I be chaptered and what type of discharge?

I suggest you take the extension or request to have the extension waived. You might like your new job and change your mind. Also, it isn't that long of an extension. I think you are maybe jumping to a conclusion too fast. I hated the military for the first 3 years of my career and then realized it was great as soon as I started knowing what I was doing. You might too. If you think refusing the extension means they will let you out earlier that isn't going to happen. You might end up in a really terrible job for the rest of your enlistment --like a permanent drug testing monitor.

You may wanna talk to your Cadre about this. SFC (Join to see), have you come across or heard of anything like this?

How do you know that the Army isn't right for you if you're not even out of IET yet?

How were you reclassed? Medical reclass? Joined the Army as prior service? Failed your previous AIT after basic?

SFC (Join to see)
PV2 (Join to see) then it's up to HRC what they will do with you. They'll probably waive the SRR if you already started school. If not they would just give you a different MOS. Given the choice, I suggest you extend to meet the time because the next MOS they give you is likely to be cook or truck driver. I think you would enjoy three years as a 25S more than 2 years as a 92G or 88M.

My first question is how did you start the class without meeting the SRR for the course? Secondly in order to graduate and PCS to the duty station you must meet the SRR and extend your contract. If you fail to do so you may end up with an other than honorable with a failure to adapt. Not sure. I would talk to the 1SG and see if there is a Career Counselor that you need to talk to there. Good luck.

When reclassed did you know the requirements then? Did you know it would take you beyond your tour of duty? Did you say anything about it to Chain of command, HR? They can't react to what they didn't know at the time. Check with Personnel yesterday and get it straighten out as to what your status is and the requirements you must keep.
