I have an ATTRS course reservation Drill Sergeant Academy during the summertime with a follow on assignment. Because of this COVID-19 situation, my major surgery was postponed until at least the beginning of next month, depending on if the situation improves. I have been advised today that I would need to defer my orders for medical reasons. If this happens would I still be able to go to Drill Sergeant Academy? Would I continue to PCS to another assignment? Or would I stay at my current station? I am approaching my 36 months here, and I am looking forward to going anywhere at this point.

If you have a major surgery upcoming then you should have been on a temporary profile this whole time, which would have prevented you from being selected for drill. If the issue didn't warrant a temporary profile then it's probably an elective surgery and doesn't fall under the justification of asking for a deferment. HRC logic is if you are eligible to move then you are qualified to move - Commanders and medical providers have ample tools to prevent you from being placed on assignment if you are not qualified to PCS.

As for what your branch manager will do, it's up to them. Usually they will place you back on the same assignment right afterwards. They have a levy to fill and you are one of those filling the requirement.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I do not know why I have not been placed on a profile because I could've used it here lately. Without going into too many details, I have an issue with my stomach and diaphragm which is causing me to breathe like a fat kid running to the couch even while walking.

SSG (Join to see) chances are you were not placed on a profile because your provider did not want it affecting their medpros deployability metrics
