If you REALLY want to drop weight, and you are really determined, do burpees. Just burpees. If you want to add some weight, do some kettlebell swings, snatches, and Turkish Getups. Cut out any beer and alcohol, knock out about a hundred burpees every day, and you will cut the weight for sure.

You have the wrong attitude. You shouldn't be asking what happens if you fail, you should just accept that failure isn't an option. If you go in with the mindset of being allowed to fail, you give yourself an out. Accept that it will, at times, suck. Understand that no matter how much it sucks, there WILL be an end to the suck. Embrace the suck, and move through it.

And if you are a little out of shape and a little overweight, don't worry about it. They are used to taking folks who are a LOT out of shape and a LOT overweight and turning them into Soldiers. One of my buddies at my first unit said he could not do a SINGLE push-up when he got to 30th AG (Fort Benning). I could BARELY do 10 sit-ups. We made it through, somehow; you can, too.

Its OK if you fail one or two during your stay they will just drop you for more pushups or dog you more on the runs whatever it is your failing at they will try to get you in shape. If you do not pass by graduation thats when your screwed because Ft. Benning does not pass PT test failures onto their first unit. You either get recycled or they boot you out depending on how out of shape you are. You sound like your only marginally out of shape, if that is the case your Recruiter is correct, you can rely on Fort Benning to fix that. Don't lift weights, it is a waste of time and you risk injury which could lead to a medical DQ.
