My current home station is at MD and I’ll be moving to FL in a few months. How will drill work now? Will I just have to jump into the closest reserve unit in my area or will I have to use the travel card to go back and forth every so often?

So, here are your only options:

1) Travel to/from your home unit using IDT funds (reimbursable up to $500). Also, you would be housed in a hotel for a set number of nights based off of your mileage from your HOR to your unit.

2) Transfer to a unit that is closer to you

3) Request to RST if you can/when you can.

SPC Cruz,
You have a lot of great options here. Before you do anything, what I would do if I were you is go to hrc.army.mil/portal, log in with your CAC, and go to the Tools->Position Map (Vacancy Search). Put in your MOS, your rank, and your branch, and see what comes up. Click on Florida. Then try to contact that unit and let them know you're moving there in a few months, and would they accept you. If they would, get the information you'll need for the DA 4651 right away, and pass that to your S-1 when you're getting ready to move. They'll do your DA 4651.

First you should let your unit know and get with a retention NCO and he can help you move to a unit closer to home, unless you want to make that drive???
