Fore me it was the birth of my first born. Being born with a heart defect called left ventricle to aortic fistula. 1-100 in the world are born with this. This was the first time I turned to the Lord for help. I turned away from him after my grandfather died in 1998. I asked him to take every ounce of strength out of me and give it to her. Long story short my oldest is almost thirteen and still strong as ever. I have numerous more but thought this would be a start.

For me it was when my oldest son died from a enlarged heart. He was only 27 yrs old, and it caught us all off guard. No child should go before their parents due to natural causes.

Looking at the business end of a gun. That makes you realize your mortality and how fast it can be gone. Since then I live in the moment and have cherished every opportunity to do something new and different.

That is easy. The year I spent in Vietnam was a life changing experience and not all of it was positive. It took me a long time to get help for PTSD and in the interim, I had problems with alcoholism. It cost me a couple of jobs and nearly my family. But, I can now look back and see the positives from my tour. I met some great buddies and learned what I was capable of doing when the chips were down. I learned the value and strength of teamwork and having your buddies back because you knew he had yours, even at the cost of each other's lives. I have never experienced that level of trust since and that is something I long for.

Good morning SSG Patton,
I had the same experiences with alcoholism and losing jobs/relationships with family, girlfriends, close friends. The first two deployments to Iraq the IED'S were a daily problem during missions outside the wire and saw plenty deaths. My PTSD didn't start until I got home, but would disappear when I got back in Iraq.I missed the action and a purpose to keep my sanity.I miss the camaraderie with my soldiers even though we might have argue and fight/lmfao
