Through out the history of the United States of America there have been many iconic images that have been captured through out the ages. My grandfather served in the Navy (and my grandmother was a riveter) during WWII. My grandfather had a newspaper clipping with this iconic photo on the front page framed on his end table by his recliner for as long as I can remember. This morning when walking into the DFAC here in Kuwait it was the cover photo for Stars and Stripes and I got a little nostalgic. This image has always inspired me. I knew at a very young age that I was going to join the military. My grandfather, both my dad and my stepfather, as well as my uncles all served in various branches of the military and I grew up with their stories and their patriotism engrained on my heart.

Please post your favorite (historical) military photo in this thread and vote for your favorite. I'll start off with what is one of the greatest moments captured on film, the flag raising on Iwo Jima, plus a few more angles that are rarely seen.<div><br></div><div>Please add your favorite historical photos... they can be as old as the Civil War or as recent as Afghanistan (they don't need to be black and white!).</div>
