First and foremost, leaders need to be teammates. Your title and rank are obvious, so lead within the team, give young leaders and soldiers ownership. Individuals follow bosses and bosses can come and go, however, teams win and teams accomplish things together. So, I say, in anything you are doing as a leader had better reflect your team's interests and benefit of the team.

Train....
Seriously, train the way you are supposed to fight.
Establish realistic and consistent training. Use the land, the resources, the expertise.
Bored Soldiers are a bad sign.
Mowing lawns, mopping latrines, area beautification, end that stuff, or at least minimize it... They don't want to leave the service with the only skills they can honestly claim are janitorial and lawn care.

Inventory management sucks, but PMI and systems maintenance are good things for someone without contractor support to know...

I inherited a Chaparral platoon at Ft Ord that did just that. A new unit with no equipment. They were called the filthy 50 by Battery officers and Sr NCO's. Put a stop to it. Didn't make me popular with the BC or anyone else looking for work details. Immediately started a training program. Including hand to hand combat training. Morale skyrocketed. Several of them stayed. Got promoted past me. I got the worse EER of my entire career there. Killed any chance of promotion. It was worth it.
