I will be PCS’ing there in August from Fort Bliss. I chose Riley since the location is closest to my husbands children. Any insight on how things are run there? Or what there is to do? I’ve already put in an application for housing on post, so what is the housing like? We will be staying in the Wilmore at McClellan Place is what I’m told.

Be prepared for tornado season and winter snow season. Grew up in the Midwest and Fort Riley was my choice for duty stations since it was close to my family too. I was there from 91-94. I lived off post but housing there was being newly built back when I was there.

My old unit there no longer exists and the old barracks where I lived is being torn down. We ran the Ammo Supply Point until civilians took over.

If you like doing outdoors stuff plenty of things to do. If you like sports, Manhattan Kansas in about 30-45 minutes offpost. Kansas State Wildcats.....

Enjoy the Midwest plus Worlds of Fun isn’t too far away either, Kansas City could be a weekend trip. Football and Baseball, as well as hockey I believe.

Junction City is a nice little town but the one between Manhattan and Ft Riley is even smaller.

When I was at Fort Riley from 2009 -2013 I was in Housing right across from the PX and Commissary. It just depends on your rank as to where they put you. They have some nice housing but then again they have some older brick not so good housing that they kept saying they were going to replace. As far as things to do there is Milford Lake near by. Manhattan Kansas is just off post. It's a college town. Just outside the main gate is Junction City if you like the small town feel.
As far as the 1SNC 541st CSSB I have no clue. I was up on the hill at 1ID DHHB HHC. It's not a bad duty station but it gets cold in the winter and make sure you know how to drive in the snow. Because Fort Riley Gets it's fair share of snow in the winter time. Kansas is mostly flat there is not much to stop the wind. Hope that helps you out some.

It does thank you! I’m originally from Michigan but being in El Paso for the longest time I will have to get used to the winter again.

The brick housing you refer to was torn down about two years ago. They are building a lot of new housing along Jackson and other places around here.
