Hey what is the best civilian brand of sleeping bag that closely resembles what the Army issues? Like the old OD green, goose down, mummy style sleeping bag CIF used to issue? I believe that bag was rated down to 0 degrees Farenheit (if you know otherwise let me know). Any advice on 4 person tents also appreciated.

Really depends on how you intend to camp. Hike in? Horse in? 4x4? RV "glamping"? We've never been disappointed in LLBean products. Or follow on service. Bought our first tent and 30° bags from them in 1974.
We used that 7x7, nylon wall, waxed cotton floor and roof tent all over Europe and the U.S. for 40 years until we wimped out and bought a diesel pusher when we retired. Bean has a number of 0° mummy bags.

Post retirement I am getting a custom designed pop-top Mercedes Sprinter from this firm: https://sportsmobile.com/conversion-type/tailgaters/ In the meantime will be using a 3-4 person tent. Thanks for the info never considered LL Bean.

I like it! We seldom pass up an RV show. Those class B's are really nice and give travel flexibility. Keep discussing wheather to trade for one. 60" flat screen? We have a 32" & 24" in our 34' class A. Thought the 32" was big. Seldom use them unless the g'daughters are with us. When you make the move, don't toss your tent. When we boondock and its warm we pitch our raggedy, old, mostly patches, tent to sleep in because the RV get HOT and we don't want to run the generator all night (for AC). (And, it feels more like camping)

Those were horrible unless you like breathing in feathers all night.

You should have DX'd yours, they are not supposed to leak feathers and mine didn't the whole time I was in the Infantry. I liked how it seemed to adjust to outside temps unless it was very hot outside and I usually always got a comfortable nights sleep in it. True it sucked royally if it ever got soaking wet, not necessarily water proof but it was water resistent up to a point.

I always took my West German sleeping bag to the field and left my army sleeping bag in the locker. It was just as good for warmth BUT it had arms sown onto the bag, which helped a lot + it was coated in heavy duty waterproofing. Having gotten my US Army sleeping bag soaked a couple of times, I put out the extra cash for it and I still use it today.
Here's an link but I don't know if this civilian model is waterproofed :

Probably shouldn't admit this. I've been a camper my whole life and have never seen these. Now I want one. See, constructive stuff is learned on RP!

SFC Ralph E Kelley - They sell the Army Down Sleeping Bag on Amazon for $400, that is a little steep for me for a sleeping bag. The one you show is so much cheaper, curious as to why. Thanks for the link though, interesting.

SPC Erich Guenther - I have no idea - my guess is they were issued to their Kommando Spezialkräfte teams. I had a friend who had been one in the 60s and had lost a leg. He sold it to me for $20 after I complained about my bag being soaking wet.
