Which base specifically? I can't speak for Ft Sam but Lackland's privatized with Balfour Beatty and they've been completely negligent in maintenance and caught lying about maintenance records. There's been mold found all over housing and the junior enlisted dorms. I would recommend finding something off base and avoid all together.

JBSA is great for family, I’d get with housing ASAP and accept what is available and do an inter-post transfer once a more suitable home opens up. Overall very convenient, safe and excellent schools, I live on post at Fort Sam and my family loves it here. There has been a lot of scrutiny with on post housing and Lincoln Military has been very friendly and accommodating with issues.

I’m currently making the decision to stay on Base only to ensure my son gets into the top schools that San Antonio offers. The only thing I’m unsure on is the sqft. I’m currently in a 1900sqft home and I’m seeing 1500 offered on base.

How do you pay rent? Do they take it out as an allotment or do you pay separate?

Allotment, you def have to sit down and weigh the pros n cons. 1500 sqft may seem small but it’s worth talking to housing for a look. SGT(P) (Join to see)

We had a town hall recently with varying results.. But from what I saw was 1. Horrible maintenance. 2. Mold. 3. Mold. 4. Animals rotting in the walls of your home and maintenance took a week to fix it??? This was a COLONEL btw..... If possible. Move them off post.

My GOODNESS! I have plans to live off post but I really want my son to be enrolled at one of the schools on base. And in order to guarantee that I would have to live on post.

[~1655871:CPL Jessica Stanfield this town hall was in the spring of 2019, I doubt that too much has changed. However there were folks there who had no complaints with their housing. If anything when your family gets moved in, be vigilant on checking for mold, water stains, and any musty smells. You cannot simply move out of on post housing.
