Leyte Gulf probably the answer you are looking for, but in my opinion it would be Guadalcanal, which lasted months and saw considerable swings in momentum on both sides.

Leyte was the biggest, but I don't think it was the most significant. By October 1944 Japan was beaten, with almost no experienced pilots and insufficient fuel, munitions and personnel.

Like Pearl Harbor before, it was an entirely one-sided engagement.

SGT Scott Bell - darn, I could start guessing them. But I got a quick question, are asking about naval gun battle or carrier battle?

SrA Christopher Wright - the European front is more of my forte, and I am generally bad with dates... I have think for about minute to remember what year I enlisted in... It was for years ago but I go 201???

SrA Christopher Wright - lemme guess, the question was what was the firt carrier on carrier battle? And the correct answer was Coral Sea? I have good head for events chronologically. Its the dates that kill me.
