Why do people not have respect or honor anymore when they put on the uniform? Is there any hope?

We as a force mirror our society. As our societal values and behaviors change, so will our recruits. Unfortunately this has brought upon some of the behaviors you're describing. Here's what I would suggest SGT Neil Chandler : Square away your part of the world. Don't give up. As you progress your influence will continue to grow.

My first unit as a new troop was absolutely FUBAR. As a new PVT I didn't have a PSG for the first 3 months because nobody bothered to assign me to a Platoon. There were several of us who were extremely unhappy with the lack of leadership and competence in the unit. I chose to leave the USAR via conditional release while one of my E4 buddies stayed. The next time I saw him was 3 years later. I was a new 2LT and he was an E6. He became the leader that unit desperately needed and had an immensely positive effect. You can do the same.

I voted yes but we have to end this political correctness junk. People need to pull up there pants. Grow some thick skin. Follow the Chain of Command and obey the UCMJ. If a person joins the military they need to understand what they are getting themselves in for. I took pride in my salute and my uniform. I think it's up to the NCO's to lead by example

It is every active duty members responsibility to grow the Profession of Arms. If you think there is an issue, start working towards correcting it by being an example for others.

I can only speak for the Air Force, but our branch is more worried about feelings then they are installing the core values, breaking recruits down and building them up, and teaching what it means to truly serve our country. We are slowly turning into a business or corporation. I think we need go back to our roots. The AF is soft and we need to re-blue our our whole branch.

Yea! We can't smoke our troops unless we perform the exercise with them. Why would I discipline myself, unless I failed to teach my troop something. I know there's paperwork but that takes up time and that's time I could be using toward something else. Plus some troops could give rats tail about paperwork.
