What is it like being in the 4-25 Paratroopers? Are there any similarities or differences to being in the 82nd?

What’s it like jumping in Alaska? Give me the low down from every sucky detail.
I have orders there so I want some insight of how much it’s gonna suck.
I did my time in the 82nd so are there any similarities or differences when it comes to frequency of jumping?

I can't tell you how many people came to me while I was in the 82nd begging me to get them back to Alaska 4/25.

Most soldiers in any capacity either really love Alaska or they are one and done. Many buy property with a plan to retire there. Only ever heard a few that would never go back. The last person who Iserved with who was in 4/25 really loved and considered returning for retirement. He was in the Arty BN.

LTC Jason Mackay I was in an Airborne Artillery Battalion in the 82nd. Airborne Artillery only go to Bragg, Richardson, and Graf Germany. Every single one of them who had been to Alaska, E5-O5, said they would go back in a heartbeat. Every single one of them wanted to return their to retire. Even the people who went to Wainwright all said how much they loved it. My current CSM tells me how much he loved Wainwright. People are afraid of Alaska, but once they go there, they can't wait to get back.

I was a SL and PSG in the 509th with 2 deployments in the 4/25. Jumping here is definitely different and we even jumped into high mountain DZ’s and in Fairbanks (YTA) and DTA (Delta Junction). Alaska is the coolest place I was stationed and even elected to ETS before indef because I was being forced to leave the 509th after 3 deployments with both battalions.

I've never been assigned to a unit in Alaska, but I have lived there for 2 years. If I could I would go back in a heart beat.
