This site offers incredible instructor led video training. All of it is very relevant, but I'd like to point out that their CISSP and CompTIA video training courses are very well done.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Safari Books Online</strong> [http://techbus.safaribooksonline.com/?uicode=dodarmy]: This is the best kept secret amongst the&nbsp;DoD IT folk. This site provides access to over 37,000 IT, Engineering, Business Management, and Financial books. The service is quite expensive, so the various&nbsp;branches (USAF/USN/USMC/USCG need to use a different link from their service) provide it gratis to those that need it. Safari Books Online&nbsp;has apps for IOS &amp;&nbsp;Android and it can be accessed on the desktop by webpage. Up to three books can be saved for offline viewing and every month tokens are distributed that can be saved up to buy a book.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>U.S. Army Information Assurance Virtual Training</strong> [https://iatraining.us.army.mil]: More great training. Really high speed stuff so take you time and setup a personal lab to practice what you learn.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>LandWarNet eUniversity</strong> [https://lwn.army.mil]: This is where you go to learn the more tactical-side-of-the-house technologies. Everything they are going to rapidly rush through in AIT can be reviewed in detail here. Some stuff can be difficult to really learn without the actual equipment, but at least you will know where to look after class.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>S6 Community of Purpose</strong> [https://s6.army.mil/]: As a 25B it is highly probable that you will be in an S6 or G6 somewhere. This site is kind of like the wiki for 25B's and their officer counterparts. While in AIT, if you get the chance, make sure and volunteer for the Signal Digital Master Gunner course. Some will try and convince you that this will pigeon hole you into tactical units. This will allow you to train and study for the Cisco Certified Network Associate exam (CCNA) from within a highly interactive online environment. Congrats SGT Alexander. Speaking from my experience (I reclassed to 25B in 2010) this is an exciting field to be in while your serving and from my understanding even better when your finally out. My best advice is since like you I came into the game late, you should try and work on you basic certs (COMPTia A+, Network + and Security +) now if you have the time. There is some online training you can take before you get there. Be open-minded and absorb all the information you can while you at Gordon. School is just shy of 6 months long so you will have some time down there. Best of luck to you.

Not to take away from SGT Alexander's initial request, but are the A+ and Network+ really that relevant these days? I've had my A+ since '98 and I took my Network+ on a whim during lunch and passed it back when it first came out.

I'm not trying to belittle those who are studying for it, I guess since I've been on the management side so long I don't recall the last time I used those certs or any of my guys.

I would recommend Microsoft server certs, CNE is picking back up since there are so few of them left, and also CCNA would be a great way to round out the skill set. Anytime you can add UNIX/LINUX would be good, even for me (a Windows guy). Security certs are starting to really pick up in the civilian world too (CISSP, CRISC, etc).

Death By PowerPoint is an understatement of what AIT will be like.</div><div><br></div><div>2) Try your best to pay attention in class, and ASK QUESTIONS. One of my personal downfalls during AIT was being afraid to ask questions because I didnt understand something because I feared being called "dumb". I always thought that everyone in the class was trackin what was going on. If you dont know or understand something, dont be afraid to ask whats going on.</div><div><br></div><div>More importantly, from mine, and every other 25B I've come across..understand that everything you learn in AIT is mostly outdated and not relevant to the "real Army"...what I mean by this is that, you will learn certain things in AIT, that in a traditional Army unit, you will NEVER use it. BUT, that being said...following number two will definitely help give you the mindset and better prepare you for what you will learn. You will get the traditional "Youll learn this when you get to your unit" speech.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Being placed in an S-6 and a Signal Company, BN, BDE, etc..completely different. You will learn that quickly..I like to compare the two and say that S-6 is where you will learn your "garrison" skills..and a Signal unit is where you will learn your "tactical" skills..granted, nowadays..you will still periodically perform your "tactical" skills in an S6, you just wont do it as often as you would in a Signal unit.</div><div><br></div><div>I hope this helps, if you have any more questions, feel free to message me!</div>

SGT(P) I am thinking of reenlisting to this mos. how did everything work out for you? when you reenlisted, how many years did you reenlist for? I know this post is old hopefully you get this message

My reclass was easy. I just had to be in class on time. After it was done, I was free to go where I wanted locally. Even went to visit family on weekends since they were within the 250 mile radius.
Very easy 3 months.

This looks like a two year old post from now, when I am responding, but the class is not bad if you have any IT experience. If you have experience and are comfortable in an I.T. environment, I would suggest fast tracking the class. Its basically like clepping, or testing out. So instead of going through the material, you can take the tests and cut the the length of the course dramatically, and get back to your duty station, or home. If you don't pass a test, they put you in either the closest class to you, or back in your original class.
With that said, you may not want to fast track. You may want to just ride the class out for however many months it is and then head back...
SGT Alexander, if you see this response, would you get back with me and let me know how it was. I went through back in 2006, so I am sure that it has changed.......
