So I'm about to graduate on the 25th of January from ft.benning. we are supposed to be pcsing to ft.stewart. my wife is just about to give birth on the 21st pf January and we have another son as well. Can anyone tell me what it's like to live on base as a new boot? I've heard you get a single home and I've also heard you get into a apartment complex. Any help is appreciated.

As far as housing, whatever is available at the time you inprocess and whichever YOU choose will be your quarters, if there's a house then pick the house, if there's only an apartment unit and you don't want it then you can wait but then now question is where you'll be staying while you're waiting - how long will you have to wait or willing to wait - it would be better if you guys start off living on post vs off post because of the summers and winters (don't have to pay for utilities unless you over use which would be extreme). Anywhere on post is still better due to the gate traffic you have to go through in the morning or anytime you need to go on post plus if you need to go home it's there.

Would love to help but it's been 32 years since I was at Ft. Stewart - best of luck!

I was t,here during the stone age ('89 - '90) and there was nothing there except the main px (which has been replaced with a much better version) and a few shoppettes. But I still loved my time there. Hinesville hasn't changed much I've heard.
The best advice I have is; don't stay on post (not referring to housing), get out and see the area. Savannah (well parts of it) is still nice to visit).

It's based on how many defendants, etc.. whatever is available you can pick from. There is stand alone homes which mostly go to people with alot of kids, higher rank, etc.. alot of homes on Stewart are duplexes which is what I lived in. Some of the houses are super shitty not gonna lie. Take your time and pick something you like, you get 10 days to do it.

When I was there in the early 1990's we lived off post. I wish I could help better.

10 years ago you would get a substandard badly out of date apartment with a bunch of drunk neighbors and Jody from the barracks making sure the wives weren't lonely while Joe was in the field or down range. The army has done a lot of updating, but the best always goes to the top. I was blessed to be off post everywhere I went in the military. There's a lot less drama that way, so if you can get it, take the off post housing.

I was in your exact family situation when I was enlisted. Married, one kid, one on the way during my first PCS after AIT. It’s nerve racking trying to navigate the system when new to it. I’m glad the Army has changed policy and allowed junior enlisted to live on post. When I first came in only E-4 and above with over 2 years in could live on post. Waiting lists vary by post and type of home you need (grade and number of bedrooms). Usually have to have orders to that base on hand to get on waiting list. You may move right in, you may have to live off post til one comes available. Good luck with your move and new arrival. SGT (Join to see)

Fort Stewart has New and renovated quarters on Base. There isn’t always enough for everyone. Off base has good and bad quarters. If you have orders you should be able to contact base housing to get a better idea of what type quarters you will recieve, on or off base as well. Thank you for your service.

I’m getting a nice home in fort Riley. I’m new too and have a wife and 4 month old. Different base but the process wasn’t complicated. Maybe it’s because I got to my unit just in time for block leave but I only had about a week to get everything I needed to get TDY and to be ready to deploy for when I get back.
