What's your definition of Leadership? We often confuse leadership with ones position, title, or seniority.
My definition: Leadership is influencing others by providing motivation, purpose, and direction. Leadership defined in the English dictionary states, "The action of leading a group of people or an organization." I decided to ask my troops this very question and they replied with similar answers such as, "a leader is a NCO or a Commissioned Officer."
It has come to my attention that their answers aren't wrong, but it lacks the integrity of what leadership is and what leadership is not. I truly believe that leaders aren't born to lead. They are molded. We gain the skill, courage, and power to lead by life experiences, social influence, and training.
Leadership should not be confused with ones seniority, position or title. Leadership is not "Troops attack that bunker while I cover you." But rather "Form up men, we are going to attack that bunker." By doing this we are maximizing our efforts, mass participation, and leading from the front.
