What is Live Environment Training (LET) like for Intel Analysts?

SFC (Join to see) , Live Environment Training can differ greatly depending the mission your current unit has. As the All Source Production NCOIC for the I Corps ACE, I send Soldiers to the PACOM JIOC, USFK, and USAR-J. Prior to their departure, I would counsel my Soldiers on their developmental priorities while they were away.

The goal is to imbed the analyst into another organization in order to maximize their development while also helping both units by sharing best practices, building relationships, etc. Some of these events turn out better than others but they are typically beneficial to all involved.

In civil affairs units, the analysts are sent to the theatre special operations command (TSOC) HQs to see first hand how the J22 and other intelligence directorates work. The time spent there was anywhere from one week to one month.

In the 70's it was called "Train as you fight", then in the 80's it was called Enviroment Training. this was when we went to the field three times a year for 30 to 45 days to train as we would down range without the use of portable showers and MRE's twice a day with one hot meal served tactically. Everything was about noise and light discipline and personal fortification and the steel pot became your wash basin until the Kavilar came in then wwe had to bring a a plastic basin. My unit then was 2nd AD and 1st CAV at Ft. Hood TX. This training needs to come back.
