Does anybody have a badge that sparks a lot of conversation? While I was in, I was awarded the Army Space Badge, and people would ask about often. The true qualifications were; you had to attend atleast one of a select few space operations course and and serve for atleast 12 months within space command. In my case I attended the Satellite Network Coordinators course or 1C course. Now you receive the badge as soon as you graduate from one of the courses. If you ask someone with the badge you usually get some sort of sarcastic reply, like its the satellite door gunner badge. Lol. Any one else have any cool badges they don't mind spoiling for the rest of us??

And a true Ninja would NEVER tell you the REAL graduation rate. Or that they graduated at all... ;-)

Ninja Parates, however, DO tell, because they...steal Ninjas.

Pirate, not parate. No one wants a parate. Except Pirates, they want a parrot.

Ahh yes the one badge the Army adopted from its sister service the Air Force. Its now just the Space Operations badge since both services adopted it. Originally, it was the AF Space Ops badge. It was created after the AF decided to separate two career fields, space and missiles. Prior to 2005 all officers that were missileers were also space operations officers. They used to do one tour in the hole working in the ICBM silos. Then a space ops tour. When they separated them they decided to make space a non flying rated field. With this they decided to make a new badge commensurate with other rated fields like pilot/rpa pilot, navigator, and air battle manager. Before this badge the space ops people wore a traditional looking AFSC badge which are the ones that have some sort of design wrapped around an oblong wreath.

Now that they created this badge it is considered in the Air Force to be of the same precedence as aeronautical ratings and wings. They are worn on top all badges if it represents your current duty AFSC, this was a first. It used to be that pilot wings were always your highest badge except chaplain insignia.

There is one more badge similar to this that was created a few years later. The AF Cyber Operations badge looks similar except the wing is a bunch of lightning bolts. This replaced the standard communications officer AFSC insignia.

Damn, I never got any of them and my USAF prior service was 30456 Space Comm Equip operator/ Tech. I was the first AFSATCOM operator/ tech. First FOT&E maint rep. I installed remote terminals in SAC underground CP, Looking Glass and NEACP aircraft, and some silos, wrote the LOI's... never got a badge..it was 77-81 so they probly didn't make one yet.

When Space Command gets their own Academy, will the students be known as Space Carets?

Never seen anyone with a Space Badge.
Looks like something awarded at Starfleet Academy.
Leave it to the Air Force...

Usaf occupational badge space and missile
MSgt Mike Mikulski

They still have the Pocket Rocket for Missileers. Missile Operations badge officially. The only difference is the officers rating has a wreath around the Rocket. The pocket rocket w/o wreath is for Missile MX. The Buzz Light Years replaced the more tradional looking AFSC space badge, in the picture above.

I have, u see more of them in the 14 series mos. Some soldiers randomly get selected to go to space command straight out of AIT to go, which makes no sense because straight out of ait are unqualified to do literally anything.

My father had something like that when he was in the Army during the 1950's he was a crane operator and worked with the NIKE series missiles. He said he did not like putting the war head on top of the booster.

SrA Edward Vong, when I tought at the EOD School I told the students (of all 4 branches) that I was an "In-Flight "missile mechanic. As the story went, I would HALO out of a plane and track to the missile to disarm it. If they believed any of it that was the point were they would throw the "bullshit flag". Pretty funny to see the expresions on their facess though! LOL :-)

I was once awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon for my efforts... im just kidding. But, I have seen this crazy looking badge before called the rams head. It is a mountaineer course ran by the National Guard I believe, you can easily google it.

Yes, there are many members from US Army Space & Missile Defense Command there. Our DCG-O, the G3, the 1st Space Brigade, 100th Missile Defense Brigade (GMD), and parts of our two SES-led centers.
