It is commonly accepted that the General of the Army ( 5 star) rank is the highest but without a doubt it is the Sergeant Major ranks. (LOL)

Actually, there once was a six star called General of the Armies. George Washington was promoted to that rank posthumously.

I don't know about the Army, but I once sat on the SGTMAJ's barstool at the staff NCO club at MCRD San Diego and the bartender wouldn't wait on me. And I was a command master chief, in uniform.
