We had several 5-star generals during WWII, but not since then.

It used to be a 5 star general. Though they either discontinued this rank or they just have not promoted anyone to that rank. I read somewhere that this rank is only used in times of war but we've been in a few wars and still no constellation level generals have been promoted.

Nothing is higher than the dependant wife of a Staff Sergeant!! LOL. Actually the president does not hold any military rank, even though he is at the top of the chain of command. And the 5-star ranks were implemented in order to give Eisenhower and others and equivalent rank to our allies. There hasn't been one in over 60 years, even though it's technically still authorized by regulations.

Try and tell an Army wife that someone outranks her and you're getting popped in the mouth!
