What is the Army Regulation that makes Government Travel Cards mandatory for all SM?

We have a few soldiers that are not wanting the Government Travel Cards. Some don't feel comfortable with a credit card with this much power. It is understandable, but as I understand it, it is MANDATORY for all SM to have one for travel on TDY and Schools.

It crossed my mind to wonder how the GTC affects the individual Soldier's credit - having too many open credit accounts can be a negative mark on your credit rating and this seems to be one more open commercial credit account in the individual's name.

The GTCs come with responsibility but one fail safe is that the card is not turned on until its needed. As an MP heard a story about an SM who was wrongfully using his GTC and some governmental law enforcement personnel went looking for this SM and when they found him, he was apprehended for illegal use of the GTC.

SSG (ret) William Martin Usually nobody care until the balance is not paid on time. Then people start looking into what was bought and all that. If the payment is paid on time, nobody really care if you use it to buy hash brownies.

SFC Fung, this is not correct. As an APC with the GTCC for my BDE, we are required to run monthly reports and do a 10% audit on our card holders. IF your APC's are doing their job, questionable purchases will be looked at, and if Misuse/Abuse is suspected, then they should be contacting your Command for additional review and possible disciplinary action. So.......use your GTCC for Official travel expenses, as approved on your Travel Authorization (DD 1610/DTS Authorization). File your Voucher, with all Applicable receipts, in a timely manner...make sure your Split Disbursement is correctly adjusted to cover your GTCC usage.....and submitted within 5 days after the end of your TDY.....AND follow up with your reviewers and approved....then, No issue!

Sorry I cannot answer this but I agree. I really hate the GTC because I feel like I need to be completely in control of my credit.

I travel extensively and use the GTC. I have only had one issue with a payment being over 30 days late. This was never reported on my credit report and my GTC does not even show on any of the three credit reporting agency's reports.

Prolly because it is issued to the guvment and the user/billee is an authorized user, just like any other CC.
