I have a wife and a 2 year old daughter and will be PCSing in April, we are looking into getting on post housing and getting on the list as soon as possible, but we’re wondering which neighborhoods were the best? Thanks

Good luck with any housing on post, period. You have to be physically signed in to JBLM before they even consider putting you on the list. And the cost of living vs BAH vs quality of life out here is ridiculous so best of wishes if you can find somewhere in town.

Oof thanks. I’ve lived in Houston my whole life before so I’m used to cheap CoL, not looking forward to it increasing

I live in Carter Lake housing and my neighbors are nice. Lots of kids running around and playing together.

You won’t get a choice. You will go on a long list. You should exert your energy in finding suitable off-post housing.

It's kind of a moot point. On post housing is so backed up, especially with the houses shut down due to mold and other issues, that you're lucky if you get on post at all.

Go online and get on the list. Much better on post since getting through the gate for PT is a pain. You won’t have many choices since you only have one child but it’s better to live on post there.
Lived in housing behind Madigan (hospital), had no issues getting a home right away and same for some of my battles coming there

call the housing staff, and I believe you can submit your application online to get on the list. From the time I left my duty station in Ft Sam to the time I was in a home was about 14 days

When I was Stationed there We had an Apartment at Sunset Garden Condominiums. It was a 2 Bedroom, but was in a nice quiet Area just north of North Fort.

You'll get options based on your needs, i.e. number of dependants, EFMP, etc. They waiting lists are rather long (6-9 months) but you can get on the active waiting list once you sign out on PCS leave from your loosing station. Do not wait until that time to apply for housing. Have everything ready, submit it, and once you sign out on leave, give them a call.
