LTJG Robert M. Above comments to SSgt (Join to see) I've definitely read some Tom Clancy, but wouldnt call any of his work the "best professional military fiction."

Capt Richard I P., I think Clancy's early works were his best. Somewhere after his third published book, he got big enough to ignore editors and the wordiness of his stories started ballooning.

I voted for Ender's Game. I never read the book (not yet, plan to) but I thought the movie was great. For other books I would have to say The Corps series was my favorite. Or maybe Talon Force. I was pretty into that series as well growing up.
Currently its all about Warhammer and Space Wolves for me though!

SSG Maurice P., Being old school is great. You might like Fields of Fire "Webb's successful first novel, Fields of Fire (1978), drawn from personal experience, tells the story of a platoon of United States Marines in late 1960s Vietnam. Reviewers hailed its descriptions of infantry life and combat."
