Today Fort Bragg is shut down due to snow. The 82nd Airborne Division PAO had a post on Facebook about the post being shut down. Apparently, a lot of older veterans were complaining about how post never shut down when they were in the military. So the PAO posted this. This is by far the best thing I've ever seen a PAO post. They have the best PAO in the military.

The 82nd Airborne Division has been deployed continuously for 16 years....they can have a day off. For the haters, quit being such a crochety ol' windbag and just tell them to do a keg stand for the Airborne, haha.

What older veterans said that Fort Bragg never shut down? They must be full of themselves. I know a number of times that Fort Bragg shut down for snow, and I was there for a number of them. And yes the 82nd does have a good number of PAOs both in the past and currently.

Agree completely. Stationed there from 86-89, 35th Signal Bde, post closed several times for snow. They had no equipment to deal with snow. EVERYTHING shut down.

SPC Christopher Benson - They had equipment for dealing with snow. They just did not want the safety concerns about inexperienced drivers driving to and around post, and it (the snow) would usually be gone before it made too much of an impact on anything else, so why bother.
There have been multiple times in the past where Ft Bragg Engineer units have been deployed to New York to help out in severe conditions.

Good or bad it doesn't matter what they did during the retirees service time. What matters is what the 82nd does now.

SSG Robert Webster - I meant no disrespect to you or 1/LT Clardy. My comment was snarky and unbecoming. Please accept my sincere apology.

CPT (Join to see), I am shocked to think that anybody would make snarky or unbecoming comments on RallyPoint. Shocked, I say!

In all honesty, the best thing I ever saw a PAO do was keep their mouth shut! Granted, I have worked with some poor ones, who really couldn't keep their mouth shut about stuff that didn't need to be published... But that is just me... I am sure there are good ones out there, I never worked with them, though!

When I was with 1st CD the BC made sure we had a photographer on every CA mission. We were all over DVIDS and they did a great job of promoting the unit.
P.S. The 82nd Twitter account is also outstanding.
