Coming from a Marine who transferred to the Army. A corporal in the Army is a made up rank people get promoted to when a company needs someone to do CQ or another job an NCO is needed for and can't supply any. Corporal is a made up rank here

One goes to a training school for inlisted. Thats CPL. The specialest does not go to school. Thats the only difference. Same pay.

Corporal designation refers to rank in chain of command, whereas a specialist designation refers to your rank in MOS. At least as I understood back in 1964 to 66.

I saw no difference. when I was told to do something I did it, specialist or not, and when I got put on extra duty for not doing something top want done right away or yesterday, I scrubbed and mopped that floor the same way a private would, no glory in being an e-4.

Spec/4's actually get no respect. The three stripes start gaining the respect. Maybe they should do away with the spec?4 rank, and make them all hard stripe corporals. Spec/4's can shoot a weapon ,throw a grenade, and do their job..and we wear the killing clothes too.
