It seems to me that it is the same as TriWest. I called to see if they had my paperwork for a doctor visit and was told they didn't have final approval yet and that someone from TriWest would be calling me back for my preferences for the appointment. Does anyone know the difference between TriWest and Care in the Community or did the VA just add another step in getting Non VA care?

I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember reading a title was assigned to that "40-mile" radius thing that allowed veterans to seek care outside the local VA. And they're TIGHT on it, too. I live at 39.6 miles away and they said, "NOPE!!!"

But I thought that was what TriWest was. I have been dealing with them because the VA couldn't get to me within the 30 days. Here is what I found online just a little while ago.

Under the current VA hierarchy structure, the Veterans Choice Program (VCP) is the primary mechanism used when Veterans are waiting for care or need care that VA or other federal agencies cannot provide. If services are not available under VCP, or a Veteran is not eligible for or declines such care, VA staff may utilize other VA Community Care options (in most cases) pending availability of funds. In the case of 30-day wait-eligible Veterans, a Veteran must wait for his or her VA appointment if they elect not to use the Choice program.

No. Tricare is its own thing. A very old military healthcare system for those in, retired, and reserves. VA and Tricare are two completely separate healthcare systems.

Doonie Tricare is paid for and you have it if you want for you and your family. TriWest is for VA and does not cost the vet anything. But can not be used by your family.

They changed from Choice Net to TriWest - they have to get a consultant from your primary physician then someone approves it - it take up to 30 days that is my experience with them.
