The shoulder sleeve insignia is that of the Eighth U.S. Army. When naming armies, the number is always spelled out. Numerals are used for divisions and below (e.g., 3rd Inf. Div.), Roman numerals for corps (e.g., XVIII ABN Corps) and words for armies (e.g., Third U.S. Army, First U.S. Army).
8th Army, worn by President Reagan. On his right shoulder he wore 2nd ID. 1983 DMZ Korea. I was there. One of our greatest modern President.
