What is the longest you have been in Promotable Status?

In my short career I've seen a lot of SM ETSing because of the lack of chances to get promoted. Last one I saw was a 25B being Promotable for 6 years and he told me he couldn't wait anymore so, he left. In the other hand, I've seen Soldiers getting promoted pretty much after passing the Board.
How long have you been in (P) Status? How long did it take you to make the Rank you are holding?

I'm Guard now so my experience is a little different, but I've been promotable for over 5 years now. Just waiting on a spot to open up in my unit. I've had many chances to transfer to other units and fill an E5 slot, but I truly enjoy where I am and who I work with, so I'll stick it out here for a while longer and see what happens.

The national guard is slot drivin. I've been promotable for about 5 years now, was first in the promotion list with my MOS and still I can not get promoted until a slot opens up. I've been looking at other units for the slots but it all depends on how far people want to drive for the promotion, if not your looking at a 10 year SPC.

SPC (Join to see) in the other hand, a guy that went to BCT after me, he is in the Reserves in PR, made SGT even before I made SPC. Incredible...

SGT(P) (Join to see) - Reserves makes rank faster. All the ones I was over seas with have made rank and they promoted all the SPC to SGT before they left to go over seas.

During the last drawdown (early to mid 90's). Went to board in 92 PLDC same year. Went to Korea as a corporal (93-94), PCS'd to Stewart as corporal. MOS shake up Army wide had to reclass to new MOS, ETS 96....as a corporal....points stayed maxed out at 798 whole time.

In my Arms School, there was a SPC that got out in a drawdown, ETSed as SGT. He came back in but because he was out for too long he didn't get his SGT rank back. He was a DS before getting out, it was kind of funny looking at a SPC with a DS badge. He said he had to explain it a lot. But you are a SFC now, RESPECT!

SGT(P) (Join to see) There may be some "old timers" still left around that suffered through the drawdown of the 90's. It was defenitely a painful time. We would go to MP and LOOK at our Bradley's. They wouldn't let us touch them. No money. Yes it was that bad..lol.
I'm good for another 72 days (sign out on Terminal Leave) finally made it to end of the rainbow. Time for you young'ins to grab the reins..lol.

Right. I talked with an Air Force officer about this a couple of weeks ago. I made the list in August and got promoted in January; he made the list more than a year ago and is still waiting. Usually in the Army they time it so that the previous promotion list is completed before the next list is released.

CPT Chris Loomis
MAJ Trey Guy Sir, what are the long term effects of staying (P) for so long? Does it impact your career later or your ability to promote later down the road?
I'm currently in a similar situation.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - One of the perks of being a Reservist and being put in the next rank slot(s) and then just wait for the board results and orders cut.
