181 is “exceeding the standard” by definition

As an Infantryman you never worried about what you had to make to skate by, you always gave 100% everytime to do your best. If at the end of the day if you did everything to achieve your optimal goal then that's all you need to worry about. When I went through Infantry Basic/IAT the MOTO was "Lead or Get the Hell Out of the Way"

What is the lowest acceptable PT score for 11B's now a days? It was 280 when I retired in '04. Just wondering. I know things have changed?

In my opinion at least 90 in each event. There a lot of dudes skate by with 200s though and it’s a shame.

The standard is 60 in each event, for a total of 180. No MOS can change that standard to gatekeep. That being said, My entire career in the Infantry, the goal was 270 or above or you would do remedial physical training in the afternoon to "assist" you in achieving that goal. Honest advice, you want to be in the 280-300 range to set yourself above your peers. 3 things you should focus on 1: be proficient in your skill level tasks and skill level 2 tasks. 2: expert marksmanship. 3: 280 or above PT score if you want to fast track in the Infantry.

one other thing I would like to add - I sure as hell would prefer a Soldier that can do their job, and has knowledge of the next step higher, and can hit what they shoot at, with a 240-250 PT score, then a PT stud who only shines doing Push-ups. sit-ups, and can run like the wind. Besides, running a 6 minute mile in shorts and a t-shirt does not actually correlate into being able to shoot move and communicate in a combat environment.

lol You have official Army standards but then you have what commanders put out in policy. Army requires 60 per 3 events for 180.

Yes, bat/brig can put out policy letters, but they CANNOT chapter/reclass a Soldier for failing to meet the policy as long as they achieve the Army standard of 60 in each event. They can, however, dictate another organized PT session in order to assist the troop in achieving the policy goal. Same thing regarding organized runs - there is NO running standard other then the APFT 2 mile run - so when your battalion/brigade has a run, you cannot utilize counseling statements for the fallouts in a chapter packet for failing to meet standard. Found out the hard way regarding this. 350-1, nor 22-20 set a standard for runs longer then 2 miles. So that myth of 5 miles in 45 minutes is just that, a myth.

I doubt it's ever been 280. It should be 60% in each event.

It was a total of 280 minimum for E-4 and below. NCO and above it was a little higher. That was just my Company's standard then I suppose. 180 is pretty pathetic for a Grunt.

270. Any less and you get treated poorly. Unit dependent in most cases

HOOAH! SPC. I was hoping that was still the standard, and the " kinder and gentler " didn't hinder it in any way.

Depends on the unit. In 10th Mountain if you had less than 90 in pushups and sit-ups you were worthless and if you weren’t extended scale on the run you were not fit to wear a rank and US flag regardless of of how well you did anything else. In Germany, a 181 was acceptable provided you shot 10 Ts on table 6.
