My was Day P1 in Navy boot camp San Diego RTC.
We had just been issued our uniforms and were in a large room, We were stenciling our names on everything we had been issued.
At one point we were all nude getting ready to don our Navy Issue tighty Whiteys and the Chaplin walked in. He gave a short prayer and then a short speech. I have remembered it and to me it was a turning point in my life.
He said take a look around you, there are 80 men in this room and at this moment you are all equal. It does not matter how much money your parents have or don’t have, It does not matter how well you did in school. You are no better or worse than any other man in this room. The Navy offers each of you the same opportunity. This will be the last time in your lives that you are no better or worse than anyone else. What you make of this clean slate is up to you.

You got me beat. At no time have I ever received a more powerful statement like that, and I have received a few in my day.
