Met a Sergeant Sargent, and a Major Payne. I currently work with James T. Kirk, but he's a Staff Sergeant do it's not nearly as funny as it could be.

I knew a SFC whose last name was Major So If you used just his last name, he was Major. If you addressed him by rank he was, SGT Major.

When the 9th ID was activated at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1971, I was a 2LT assigned to the Division Headquarters where I met 1LT Marvile and Major Major.

1LT Marvile was promoted and on his first duty day as a new Captain, his wife dropped him off outside the command entrance where he jumped out of the car wearing blue tights with a red cape and oversized Captain bars on his shoulders (tin foil on cardboard about 7" square). As he sprinted toward the entrance and bounded up the stairs, the CG, DCG, and COS, followed by me, came out of the building. As they stepped aside for the Captain and returned his snappy salute, I heard the CG ask, "Who the Hell was THAT?" The COS calmly replied, "That's Captain Marvile, Sir,"

On another note, as a young NCO in the 58th Signal Bn, my platoon sergeant was PSG Fear and the first sergeant was 1SG Love. We used to say that once you felt the Fear you could report to the orderly room and get some Love. The Battalion Commander was LTC Hawk and the Adjutant was CPT Drum.

How about an unappropriate name. Aboard my destroyer we had a guy named Stanes. Yep Seaman Stanes.

In bootcamp we had a guy with last name of Commander. He later got a a NROTC scholarship
