I am Major Lay, retired. I once under Col Spermo. At one time my husband and I were both Majors. Together we were (grammatically correct) the Majors Lay (although people would often call us the Major Lays)

Nellis AFB, early 2000's, weekend shift POL. Just catching oddball aircraft refuels and sitting on our asses mostly. The phone in the control center rings and "Col. Pancake needed a F-16 fueled on the transient line". (POL is full of jokers and miscreants who are always messing with each other so...) the controller tells him to "flapjack his ass on down and get it himself". We all laugh etc try to figure out who it was. The front door of the building opens. In walks a 6'3" slightly graying man in a flight suit with a name patch Richard Pancake, Colonel, USAF.
He was laughing but we were shitting. Dick Pancake what a character

Wacker... In JROTC I knew a cadet with the last name Wacker. Since it was Army JROTC she started off as Private Wacker. I don't remember if she made it to being an officer but I think it would be funny to have a Major with that last name.

Over my career, I was stationed with a MSgt. Bader, a SrA Horney, SrA Hooter, and SrA Dickhout -- all four good troops and good people, can't imagine the amount of teasing they received.......
